888sport review: UKGC account 39028, odds, markets and cash out

This 888sport review reads like the book itself: prices, markets, the cashier and the licence, each checked against the Gambling Commission register.

Answer first

888sport is the sportsbook arm of evoke plc, online since 1997 and operated in Britain by 888 UK Limited under Gambling Commission account 39028, licence 039028-R-319297-014, currently active. The domain 888sport.com is registered against that exact account in the Commission's public business register, so the British site runs on its own licence rather than a shared one.

The book covers football with Premier League, Bundesliga and Champions League markets, plus tennis, basketball, horse racing, darts and virtual sport, with a live section where prices move as the match runs. Bet Builder, cash out, decimal and fractional odds, live scores and an app for iPhone and Android are all part of the standard account. Credit cards cannot be used to deposit anywhere in Britain, and every UK licensee is connected to GamStop. 18+, BeGambleAware.org.

What 888sport is and who runs it

888sport is a sportsbook, not a casino with a betting tab bolted on. It is one of several products inside evoke plc, the London-listed group that also owns William Hill, Mr Green and the 888casino and 888poker brands, and the 888 name has been online since 1997. The British version of the sportsbook is operated by 888 UK Limited, whose registered head office is at 601-701 Europort in Gibraltar.

The detail that matters for a UK customer sits in the Gambling Commission's public business register. Account 39028 belongs to 888 UK Limited, carries licence number 039028-R-319297-014 in active status, and the domain 888sport.com is recorded against that same account. In plain terms: when you place a bet on the British site, it is accepted under this company's own licence, not a sister company's, and the Commission's complaints and dispute route applies to it directly.

Because the group runs three products under one login, it helps to know where the line falls. The sportsbook has its own lobby, its own promotions and its own terms; a casino bonus you have seen advertised elsewhere does not apply to a sports bet, and poker is a third product with its own rules and cashier. This site covers the sportsbook offer and the sportsbook only.

Account

888sport login: getting into your account

There is no separate login page on this site, and you do not need one. The login control sits in the top bar of the 888sport site and app; you sign in with the email address or username you registered with, and a forgotten password is reset through a link sent to that email.

Two things surprise new customers. First, shortly after registering the bookmaker asks for documents — a photo ID and sometimes proof of address. That is not a sales tactic: Gambling Commission rules require every British licensee to verify age and identity before the first withdrawal, and most operators, 888sport included, ask early rather than hold up a payout later. Second, if you have an active self-exclusion through GamStop, the login will fail or the registration will be refused for the full period you chose, and customer support cannot lift it.

The mobile version of the login flow, including what to do when the app cannot find your account, is covered on the iPhone and Android app page.

Login in four steps
  1. Open the login controltop-right of the site or app.
  2. Email or username + passwordreset by email if forgotten.
  3. Verification promptID and proof of address, required before a withdrawal.
  4. GamStop checkan active self-exclusion blocks the account for its full term.
The line

Sports and markets in the book

The line is built around football, and the three competitions named on the operator's own site are the Premier League, the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. On a typical match you get the match result, over/under totals and Asian and European handicaps, plus the player and corner markets that feed Bet Builder. Tennis follows with match winner, set betting, correct set score, games totals and games handicaps. Basketball covers the NBA and the EuroLeague with points totals, handicaps and separate markets for individual quarters and halves.

Horse racingCheltenham Festival, the Grand National, each-way and Rule 4.
DartsMatch and set markets, 180s and checkout specials.
Virtual sportScheduled virtual events, licensed separately since 16.04.2020.

Horse racing is the fourth pillar and the one with its own calendar: the Cheltenham Festival in March and the Grand National in April are where each-way terms, non-runner rules and Rule 4 deductions decide what a settled bet is worth — that side of the book has its own page. Darts and virtual sport complete the list. Every one of these sports is split into a pre-match line, priced before the event starts, and a live section, where the same markets are re-priced as the match runs.

The slip

Bet Builder, cash out and how odds are displayed

Bet Builder takes several outcomes from a single event — say a home win, over 2.5 goals and a named scorer — and prices them as one bet. Because the outcomes are related the book recalculates the combined odd rather than multiplying the three prices, but the slip works like an accumulator: one stake, one price, all legs must land.

Cash out closes an open bet before the event ends and pays whatever the position is worth at that moment. It is worth being exact about what that is: a trade, not insurance. The book offers a smaller certain amount instead of a larger uncertain one, priced from the live odds, so it almost always sits below the potential return.

Odds are shown in decimal or fractional format, switched in the account settings. The conversion is fixed: fractional 2/1 means two units of profit per one unit staked, which as a decimal — profit plus the stake — is 3.00. A price of 1/2 is 1.50, evens is 2.00. The decimal figure is the number you multiply your stake by to get the total return, which is why every calculator on this site uses it.

Live betting and how prices move

In the live section every price is a moving target. The book re-prices a market after each goal, break of serve or scoring run, and between those moments it drifts with the clock. Two things follow from that. A market can be suspended for a few seconds at a dangerous moment — a penalty, a break point — and your bet will not be accepted until it reopens. And a bet placed at a price that has just moved may be rejected or offered again at the new price, because of a short acceptance delay that gives the book time to check the price is still current.

Tennis has a rule of its own that comes up often enough to deserve a line here. When a player retires mid-match, the treatment of your bet depends on the market: outright match winner, set betting and games totals can be settled, voided or partially settled under different rules, and the sportsbook rules section on the operator's site sets the exact policy. Read the retirement rule for the market before backing a long-format tennis bet. 888sport live is also where cash out earns its keep, since the price you are offered moves with the same feed.

Money

Deposits, withdrawals and the UK credit card ban

The cashier's method list and minimum amounts depend on the market you register in, so take those figures from the cashier itself at the moment you sign up rather than from a page like this one. What does not change is the legal frame. Since 14 April 2020 no gambling operator licensed in Great Britain may accept a credit card deposit, so a debit card or an electronic wallet is what you will use; a credit card entered into the cashier is refused, not charged. Withdrawals normally return to the method that funded the account, which is a money-laundering rule rather than a preference, and the first withdrawal is held until age and identity verification is complete — upload the documents early and the payout does not stall. The rest of the deposit rules that matter for a new customer — what counts as a qualifying deposit and what does not — are on the offer page.

The licence is not a badge; it is a list of obligations. A British licensee must verify who you are before paying out, must be connected to GamStop so that a self-exclusion registered anywhere applies here too, must offer deposit limits, time-outs and session reminders inside the account, and must point you to an approved alternative dispute resolution body if a complaint is not settled between you and the bookmaker. The four activities on account 39028 are each dated in the register: real-event betting since 1 November 2014, virtual sport since 16 April 2020.

If betting stops being entertainment, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare, and BeGambleAware.org lists the tools and the local services. Our responsible gambling page explains the in-account limits step by step.

FAQ

FAQ

Is 888sport licensed in the UK?

Yes. The British site is operated by 888 UK Limited under Gambling Commission account 39028, licence number 039028-R-319297-014, with an active status covering remote betting on real and virtual events. The domain 888sport.com is listed against that account in the Commission's public business register, which anyone can search.

Is 888sport the same as 888casino?

They belong to the same group, evoke plc, but they are separate products with separate lobbies, separate promotions and separate terms. A bonus advertised on the casino side does not apply to a sports account, and this site covers the sportsbook only.

How do I log in to 888sport?

Use the login control at the top of the site and sign in with your registered email address or username. Password resets are sent by email. Before your first withdrawal you will be asked to confirm your age and identity, which is a Gambling Commission requirement applied by every British licensee.

What is cash out and should I use it?

Cash out closes an open bet before the event finishes and pays the current value of your position. It is a trade: you give up the larger potential return for a smaller certain one. It is not insurance and it does not remove the loss you have already taken if the price has moved against you.

Can I deposit with a credit card?

No. Credit card deposits for gambling have been prohibited across Great Britain since 14 April 2020, so debit cards and electronic methods are the options at any UK-licensed bookmaker, 888sport included.

What happens to my bet if a tennis player retires?

It depends on the market you backed and on the specific rule the book applies to retirements, which is set out in the sportsbook rules section. Because outright winner markets, set markets and games totals can be treated differently, read the retirement rule for the market before placing a long-format tennis bet.

Does GamStop block 888sport?

Yes. Every operator holding a Great Britain licence must be connected to GAMSTOP, so an active self-exclusion prevents you from registering or logging in for the full period you chose, and it cannot be lifted early by contacting the bookmaker.

Verdict

Who the book is for

Suits you if
  • you bet mainly on football and tennis and want one account with an app, in-play prices and cash out;
  • you value a licence you can check yourself — account 39028 is searchable in the public register;
  • you want Bet Builder on iPhone and Android too.
Look elsewhere if
  • you actually want slots or live tables — that is 888casino, a separate product with separate terms;
  • you expect to fund the account with a credit card, which no British bookmaker can accept;
  • you are self-excluded through GamStop.
